| Gigi has painted in oils and pastels for over thirty years in a continuing exploration of the dramatic effects of both natural and artificial light. Her early work investigated color-drenched still life subjects, later evolving into images that explored the mysterious phenomena of nocturnal illumination. Recent work has expanded both palette and subject matter to celebrate the chroma of morning and afternoon light. Liverant's subjects are selected for their design elements and relationship to their environment, while color choices reveal her emotional response to the subject. In addition to the pastels for which she is known, Gigi Liverant has developed her unique imagery in large-scale oil paintings. Her work is recognized for its emphasis on luminous color, spontaneous surface texture. Gigi has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Andrew Giffuni Memorial Prize at the Pastel Society of America Annual Exhibition in 2009, First Prize Connecticut Women Artists , Best in Show Connecticut Pastel Society, and the Diane Bernhardt Gold Medal Award at the PSA Annual Exhibition in 2000. She is a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist and a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society .
